This protocol is low in calories and supplemented by HCG. This is a hormone the body produces during pregnancy called human chorionic gonadotropin. Dr. Simeons developed this concept which has been proven success for weight loss. This is especially true for obese individuals. People have been losing weight with this protocol for over forty years. Although there have been hundreds of HCG programs developed, the original Dr. Simeons HCG diet is based on a program of 23 or forty days and the rules are strict.
Testing and research showed the patients did not experience the usual symptoms experienced with most diets. The diet reviews showed the participants did not experience the following symptoms.

The hormones that control your appetite may be affected or suppressed by the HCG. The best program for anyone wanting to lose less than fifteen pounds is the 23 day plan. This consists of three separate phases. Phase One encompasses the first two days of your diet. You should consume as many calories as you can while supplementing with either HCG injections or drops. Phase Two begins on your third day and continues until your 23rd day. You should consume a maximum of 500 calories each day and continue taking your HCG injections or drops. Phase Three encompasses days 24 through 26. Your caloric intake remains the same but you will stop using HCG supplementation.
The 40 day plan is perfect if you want to lose in excess of fifteen pounds. Nobody should use the Dr. Albert Simeons plan to lose more than 34 pounds on the HCG diet. If you intend to lose 34 pounds prior to completing the plan, you should discontinue the HCG supplements. Phase one covers your first two days on the plan. This is when your caloric consumption is increased and you supplement using HCG injections or drops. Phase two is from your third day on the plan until your 40th day. You calorie consumption must not exceed 500 each day. You will keep using HCG injections or drops during this phase. Phase Three includes days 41 through 43. Continue consuming 500 calories each day but stop using your HCG.
It is important to note there were strict guidelines and regulations for the original HCG diet plan. You need to closely follow the rules. You need to administer a dose of 125 IU of HCG. You can accomplish this with the injections or the drops but the injections are more effective.
The Food List for the HCG Diet
Once you have finished your diet, you must not eat any sugar or starch for three weeks. After this time, you can start eating small quantities of starch. Your weight should be checked often to ensure your results are being maintained. Dr. Simeons has a plan that covers the specific foods you can consume at every meal. Your breakfast may include:
- Coffee with no sugar
- Tea with no sugar
- One tablespoon of milk each day
- Saccharin or Stevia
There are four categories for lunch and dinner. You may have one item from each. This includes 100 grams of:
- Chicken breast
- White fishVeal
The meat should be weighed when it is raw and contain no visible fat. The second category is one serving of:
- Red radishes
- Green salad
The third category is:
- One piece of Melba toast
- One Grissini breadstick
The fourth category is:
- One orange
- One apple
- One-half of a grapefruit
- One handful of strawberries
You can eat the breadstick or fruit between meals as opposed to with lunch or dinner. You may not have in excess of four items with the same meal. This diet does not allow dressings, oil or butter. You may enjoy numerous seasonings including:
- Mustard powder
- The juice of one lemon every day
You can use the above list to create seasonings and dressings for your meals. There are also a lot of recipes you can use to create meals from certain foods. Some of the most popular HCG diet recipes from Dr. Simeons include:
- Meatballs: Grind one Grissini breadstick into a powder and combine with 100 grams of ground steak. Add pepper, salt, basil, garlic, oregano and parsley. Make small meatballs from the mixture. Cook for ten minutes at 425 degrees. Turn over the meatballs after five minutes.
- Grilled chicken: Mix one teaspoon lemon juice, one teaspoon minced garlic and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Cover 100 grams of chicken breast with this mixture. Grill for ten minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked.
- Steamed cabbage: Mix 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder with the juice from one half of a lemon. Steam one serving of cabbage for approximately ten minutes. Toss the mustard and lemon mixture over the cabbage. Add salt for the desired taste.
